Oogmerke

Die TPO is ‘n vrywillige bedryfsorganisasie wat poog om as mondstuk vir die produsente van vars tamaties in Suid-Afrika te dien:

  • vir die lede die beste moontlike ekonomiese posisie in Suid-Afrika te verseker deur as skakel tussen die lede, instansies en owerhede (privaat en openbaar) te dien;
  • as mondstuk vir die lede op te tree en namens die lede inspraak te kry in besluite wat hulle belange raak;
  • ‘n nasionale verteenwoordigende liggaam ten opsigte van alle tamatiebelange in stand te hou waaraan alle tamatieprodusente en belanghebbers kan deelneem en onderlinge eenheid en ‘n gees van samewerking en samehorigheid onder tamatieprodusente te kweek en te bevorder;
  • hom te beywer vir die mees doeltreffende produksie en bemarking van tamaties;
  • hom te beywer om die tamatiebedryf stelselmatig te ontwikkel wat insluit die bewaar van die hulpbronne (grond en water), die instandhou en verbeter van grondvrugbaarheid, produksie- en bemarkingsmetodes;
  • te affilieer by en saam te werk met ander landbou-organisasies;
  • ter verwesenliking van genoemde doelstellings geen sake van die Vereniging deur politieke oorwegings te laat beïnvloed nie;
  • deur gesamentlike optrede te sorg vir die daarstel en onderhou van toepaslike fasiliteite en dienste vir die lede van die Vereniging en om vir hierdie doel die tamatiebedryf te organiseer en die nodige diensrigtings te skep;
  • die TPO se sake nie met die maak van wins as oogmerk te bedryf nie en om geen oorskotte wat uit sy aktiwiteite mag ontstaan aan die lede uit te keer nie, maar uitsluitlik of te belê of aan te wend word om die Vereniging se doelstellings te bevorder;
  • nie in kompetisie met sy lede handel te dryf nie of deel te neem aan enige besigheids, professionele – of beroepsbedrywighede van enige van sy lede nie, of enige van sy lede finansieel of andersins te ondersteun in en met die beoefening van ‘n besigheid, bedryf of beroep nie;
  • aktief lede vir die TPO te werf onder alle tamatieprodusente, hetsy bewese of nuwe produsente;
  • onderlinge eenheid en ‘n gees van samewerking en samehorigheid onder tamatieprodusente te kweek en te bevorder;
  • ‘n nasionale verteenwoordigende liggaam ten opsigte van alle tamatiebelange in stand te hou waaraan alle tamatieprodusente en belanghebbers kan deelneem;
  • hom te beywer vir die mees doeltreffende produksie en bemarking van tamaties;
  • hom geheel en al daarop toe te lê om sy vernaamste en enigste oogmerk te bevorder.

The TPO as a voluntary producers’ organisation aspires to act as a mouthpiece for the producers of fresh tomatoes in South Africa. Its objectives are:

  • to maintain a national representative body in respect of all tomato interests in which all tomato producers and stakeholders can participate;
  • to act on behalf of the members in consultations regarding decisions which affect their interests;
  • to deliver coordinated views to the Government and authorities on matters relating to the members and the tomato industry and to co-operate in all matters relating to the welfare of the tomato industry, solving problems and the establishment of the necessary laws and regulations;
  • to strive for the most efficient production and marketing of tomatoes;
  • to develop the tomato industry systematically, including preservation of resources (land and water), the maintenance and improvement of soil fertility, production and marketing methods;
  • to affiliate and cooperate with other agricultural organizations;
  • not to be influenced by political considerations in achieving the said goals or business’ of the Organisation;
  • to establish and maintain, through collective action, appropriate facilities and services for the members of the Organisation and, for this purpose,
  • to organize the tomato industry and to create the necessary service programs;
  • to operate the TPO’s business without profit making as an objective and to invest any surplus funds in the promotion of the Organisation’s objectives;
  • not to trade in competition with its members or to participate in any business, professional – or any professional activities of any of its members –
  • or to support any of its members financially or otherwise in their carrying on a business, trade or profession;
  • to recruit actively members for the TPO amongst tomato producers, irrespective of them being established producers or new producers;
  • to cultivate and promote unity and a spirit of cooperation among tomato producers;
  • to establish and maintain a healthy understanding between the members and other stakeholders;
  • to strive to serve the interests of members in all areas of production; and
  • to concentrate entirely on the promotion of its main and only purpose.
